  1. I really enjoyed this episode, and really enjoyed listening to what Cameron had to say. Growing up having a father, aunt and uncle who have all since retired from the PSP, I can relate to him in that respect, as well as also having the “fuck authority” attitude that a lot of cop’s kids tend to adopt during their teen years. I have since grown up a lot, and now respect the authority of those that are appointed to BE the authority. I am by no means a law abiding citizen on a daily basis (who doesn’t speed when they can, or run stop signs when there’s noone around?) but I sure as hell wouldn’t put up a fight if I got caught breaking the law. I am really bummed out by all the flack that the police in general are getting because of a few isolated incidences. More people need to realize that the majority of police actually care about their jobs and their communities and don’t want to hurt people. Cameron sounds exactly like the kind of person that we need representing us as a police officer, and the PSP would be lucky to have him. 😉

    • Hey, thanks for commenting and thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the episode. It’s really interesting to grow up with and around LEOs. Usually most kids will go through a phase where they challenge their parents authority, except that when individuals such as ourselves did it, we were literally challenging the law. I know I was under a much more heavily scrutinized eye than most of the kids I grew up with. Whenever I found myself in trouble it would also reflect even more poorly on my father. I was responsible for not only upholding my reputation, but his as well. The lines between parent and officer could be blurred and it creates turmoil for both parent and child alike. Regardless of any issues that occurred growing up, I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s really given me a much more balanced and level headed view of the world and I’m a more responsible and respectful individual because of it. You touched on the bigger issues we discussed in the episode and I think the two that are paramount above the rest. First is the notion that it’s ever a good idea to fight a charge on the side of the street. The court system is there for a reason. Second is the ability to recognize that these incidences of abuse are really few and far in between. That’s not to take away the importance or gravity of those cases, but just to keep in mind that’s it’s truly not the norm. Thanks for listening, drive safe and take care!
